The brand film, which has to be about something

Nearly every corporate brand film is the same film. Aerial of the skyline, staff walking purposefully, hands on a keyboard, a founder saying the word passion, a piano track. It is competent, it is expensive, and nobody remembers a second of it, because it was never about anything in particular.

  • A position not a list of adjectives
  • One idea carried the whole way
  • Cut for use not just for the showreel

Partners & recognition

The stack we work in, the clients we keep

The platforms we build and run campaigns in, and the clients whose numbers we publish with their names on. HubSpot is the one partnership we claim; the rest are tools we use, not badges.

The problem

The same film, with a different logo

If your competitor could put their logo on the end of your brand film and nothing would look wrong, it has not done its job. That test fails far more often than anyone admits.

Why brand films end up interchangeable

  1. The brief was a list of adjectives

Innovative, trusted, people-first, forward-thinking. Every company in your category claims all four, so a film built from them is a film about nothing. A brand film needs a specific claim that a competitor could not honestly make.

  2. Consensus removed everything specific

The interesting version went to six stakeholders and came back safe. The specific claim became a general one, the sharp line became a softer one, and the result offends nobody and interests nobody either.

  3. Nobody decided who it was for

A film aimed at customers, recruits, investors and staff at once serves none of them. These audiences want different things and the film has to choose.

  4. It was made for one screening

Shown at a launch event, put on the homepage, and never used again. The footage is a substantial asset that could feed a year of content, and it usually sits on a drive instead.

What is included

What a brand film engagement covers

The thinking, the production and the versions that make it earn its cost over the next two years.

Finding the position

Interviews with founders, staff and customers to find the specific thing that is true about you and not about your competitors. This is the difficult part and it decides whether the film is worth making at all.

Script and treatment

A written treatment showing the film before it exists: structure, tone, look, and what the viewer should feel at each point. Approved before anyone books a crew.

Casting and location

Real people from the business where they can carry it, professionals where they cannot. A genuine employee who is uncomfortable on camera undermines the authenticity the decision was meant to buy.

Direction and cinematography

A visual approach chosen to suit the position rather than to demonstrate equipment. Sometimes that is elegant and controlled; sometimes handheld and imperfect serves the story better.

Original sound and music

Sound is roughly half of how a film feels and the first thing cut when budgets tighten. Original or properly licensed music, and sound design that is designed rather than assumed.

Multiple cuts from one shoot

The full film, a sixty-second version, a set of fifteen-second social cuts, and vertical versions. Planned before the shoot so the coverage exists, which is the only way this works.

Stills from the same production

A photographer alongside the film crew costs comparatively little and produces a year of brand photography. The single most under-taken opportunity on any brand shoot.

Arabic and English versions

Subtitled or with an Arabic voice-over, planned at treatment stage so the timing and framing work for both.

Technology

How it is made

Whatever suits the film. Equipment lists are a poor proxy for whether something is any good.

Development

Where it is won.

  • Founder and staff interviews
  • Customer interviews
  • Written treatment
  • Position defined before production

Production

Scaled to the film.

  • Cinema camera packages
  • Lighting and grip
  • Location and permit handling
  • Drone with UAE permits
  • Casting and talent

Post

Where the film is actually built.

  • Editorial
  • Colour grade
  • Sound design and mix
  • Motion graphics and titles
  • Subtitling in Arabic and English

Delivery

For everywhere it will run.

  • Vertical and square cuts
  • Short-form social edits
  • Broadcast and cinema masters
  • Web-optimised encodes

How we work

How a brand film gets made

The first stage is the one that decides whether it is worth making.

Before anything is written

Interviews across the business and with customers. What you actually do differently, what customers say when nobody is selling to them, and what your competitors cannot honestly claim. Sometimes this stage concludes that the honest position is not a film.

  • Founder, staff and customer interviews
  • The specific claim identified and tested
  • Competitor films watched and compared
  • Audience chosen, not left open

The film before it exists

Structure, tone, look, references and the emotional shape. Signed off by everyone who will have an opinion later, because the treatment is where consensus should happen rather than in the edit.

  • Written treatment with visual references
  • All stakeholders review at this stage
  • Scope, cast and locations fixed
  • Deliverables list agreed before the shoot

Covering every version

Shot for the full film and for the cuts, including vertical framing where the deliverable list needs it. Coverage planned so the social versions exist rather than being cropped out of a landscape master.

  • Coverage planned for every deliverable
  • Vertical framing shot, not cropped later
  • Stills captured alongside
  • Permits and locations handled

All of it, together

Edit, grade, sound and titles. Then every version in the agreed list, delivered at once, with the raw footage handed over so you own the asset.

  • Full film plus every short cut
  • Vertical and captioned versions
  • Raw footage and project files handed over
  • Stills delivered with the film

Why us

Why this film will not look like everyone else's

Because of what happens before anyone picks up a camera.

It starts with a position, not a mood board

Interviews to find the specific thing that is true about you. If the film would work with a competitor's logo on the end, we have not finished the first stage.

Cut for everywhere it will run

The full film, the minute, the fifteen-second cuts, vertical versions. Planned before the shoot, because coverage that was not shot cannot be created in the edit.

You get the raw footage

The rushes from a brand shoot can feed a year of social content. Studios that keep them are keeping your asset.

We will say when a film is the wrong spend

Some companies need photography and three good pages far more than they need a brand film. We would rather sell you the thing that works.

Questions

Brand films, answered plainly

Including whether you actually need one.

AED 35,000 to AED 250,000 covers most of what we are asked to build. The number moves on shoot days, cast and locations, whether it is filmed across multiple sites, how many finished cuts, and whether original music is commissioned. Anything quoted before those are known is a guess. We scope first, then price, and the scope document is yours whether or not you proceed. These are market ranges rather than a fixed rate card — the proposal carries the real figure.

Less often than it gets commissioned. It earns its cost when you have something genuinely distinctive to say, when you are entering a market that does not know you, or when recruitment is a real constraint. If the honest position is that you do good work reliably, that is better served by case study films and photography than by a brand piece.

A brand film argues a position and is made to be felt. A corporate video explains something and is made to be understood. Different scripts, different budgets, different success measures. Most briefs that arrive asking for a brand film actually describe a corporate video, and we will say so.

Ninety seconds for most uses, with a sixty and a set of shorter cuts from the same shoot. Two to three minutes works for a launch screening or a recruitment page where the viewer has already chosen to watch. On a homepage, anything past ninety seconds is mostly unwatched.

Real staff where they can carry it, because authenticity is usually the reason for the decision. It is worth being honest at casting though: an uncomfortable employee on camera undermines exactly the thing you were trying to buy. A mix is common and sensible.

Six to twelve weeks. Development and treatment take two to four, the shoot is usually one to three days, and post-production is three to five weeks including grade and sound. Multi-location shoots extend it.

Everyone with an opinion should see the treatment. That is the stage where changing direction costs a conversation rather than a reshoot. The most expensive brand film problems we have seen were senior stakeholders seeing the film for the first time in the edit.

Yes. Filming in Dubai requires permits for most public and many private locations, and drone work has its own approvals with real lead times. We handle it and we build the lead time into the schedule rather than discovering it in week one.

Not by views. Completion rate tells you whether it held people. Beyond that it depends what it was for: recruitment applications, sales team feedback on how meetings start, or brand search volume around a launch. Agreeing the measure before the shoot avoids the awkward conversation afterwards.

You should, and it is the most under-used part of most productions. A one-day shoot typically yields enough material for months of social content if the coverage was planned for it. That planning has to happen before the shoot, which is why the deliverables list is agreed at treatment.

Yes, and we recommend it on almost every brand shoot. A photographer alongside the film crew adds a modest amount to the budget and typically produces a year of brand photography from a set and cast you have already paid for.

Would your competitor's logo work on your film?
