Interactive video, when the branching does a job

Interactive video is genuinely excellent for a narrow set of problems and an expensive novelty everywhere else. It works when different viewers need different content and when the choice they make tells you something useful. If neither is true, a linear film is better and costs a fraction.

  • Narrow use we say when it is not one
  • Choice data what they picked, tracked
  • One shoot many paths from it

Partners & recognition

The stack we work in, the clients we keep

The platforms we build and run campaigns in, and the clients whose numbers we publish with their names on. HubSpot is the one partnership we claim; the rest are tools we use, not badges.

The problem

Interactivity as a novelty

A branching video that offers a choice between two paths that reconverge immediately has added cost and complexity to achieve nothing. The interaction has to change what the viewer sees in a way that matters to them.

Where these projects go wrong

  1. The branches do not actually differ

Two paths that show slightly different framing of the same message. The viewer notices, and the production cost multiplied for no benefit. Branches have to lead somewhere genuinely different.

  2. The shoot was not planned for branching

Branching multiplies the material required, and coverage that was not shot cannot be created afterwards. A linear shoot cannot be retrofitted into a branching film without going back.

  3. Nobody uses the choice data

The most valuable output of interactive video is knowing what each viewer chose. That is qualification data, and it usually sits unread in a platform dashboard rather than reaching the CRM.

  4. It does not work where it needs to

Interactive players have real constraints on mobile, inside email, in some corporate browsers and on connected TV. Discovering that after production is expensive and common.

What is included

Where interactive video genuinely works

A short honest list. Outside these, a linear film is usually the better answer.

Scenario-based training

The strongest use by a distance. Make a decision, see the consequence, learn from it. Far more effective than watching someone else make the right choice, and it produces assessment data as a by-product.

Product tours by audience

A viewer choosing their industry or role, and seeing the version of the product that applies to them. Genuinely useful when your product serves several distinct segments.

Configuration and specification

Complex products where the viewer builds up a specification through choices, and the video shows what each one changes. Works well for machinery, vehicles and fit-out.

Sales tools

A film a salesperson navigates during a meeting, jumping to what the prospect asks about, rather than sitting through a linear presentation.

Clickable hotspots

Simpler than branching and often enough: points in a video that open detail, specifications or a link. Much cheaper and covers many briefs that arrive asking for full branching.

Choice data into the CRM

Every selection recorded against the viewer where consent allows. What someone chose to watch is stronger qualification data than anything a form collects.

Accessible fallbacks

A linear version for contexts where the interactive player will not run. Planned from the start rather than improvised when a client's IT policy blocks the embed.

Platform selection

Choosing the hosting and player based on where it has to work and what it must integrate with, rather than defaulting to whichever tool the studio is familiar with.

Technology

What we build interactive video with

Production plus the platform and data plumbing, since the data is usually the real reason to do it.

Production

Planned for branching from the start.

  • Branch-aware shoot planning
  • Multi-path scripting
  • Modular editorial
  • Consistent grading across paths

Platform

Chosen for where it must run.

  • Interactive video platforms
  • Custom web players
  • LMS-compatible delivery
  • Mobile and desktop testing

Data

The part worth having.

  • Choice tracking
  • CRM integration
  • Assessment scoring
  • Drop-off analysis per branch

Fallback

Because it will not run everywhere.

  • Linear version
  • Captioned accessible version
  • Low-bandwidth encodes
  • Email-safe alternatives

How we work

How interactive video gets made

Map the paths before anything is written, because the map is the budget.

Honestly

Do different viewers genuinely need different content, and would knowing what they chose be useful? If both answers are no, we will recommend a linear film and say why.

  • Branching justified or rejected up front
  • Value of the choice data assessed
  • Linear alternative costed for comparison
  • Honest recommendation, including against

Every one of them

The full decision tree with every ending. This determines the shoot, the script and the cost completely, and it is where the scope has to be controlled — each branch multiplies the material.

  • Complete decision tree mapped
  • Every path scripted
  • Shoot requirements derived from the map
  • Scope fixed before production

For all paths at once

Filmed with the branching structure in mind so every path has its coverage, then assembled in the player with the tracking configured.

  • All paths covered in one shoot
  • Consistent grade across branches
  • Player built and tested on real devices
  • Choice tracking configured

Which is the point

Tested where it has to work, with the fallback ready, and the choice data flowing somewhere it will be used rather than into a dashboard nobody opens.

  • Tested on the devices and networks it needs
  • Linear fallback published alongside
  • Choice data reaching the CRM
  • Drop-off reviewed per branch

Why us

Why this is worth the complexity

Only when it is. The most useful thing we do on these projects is say when it is not.

We will tell you to make a linear film

Most briefs that arrive asking for interactive video are better served by a good linear one. Saying so costs us a larger project and it is the right answer more often than not.

Branching planned before the shoot

Coverage for every path, captured once. A linear shoot cannot be retrofitted into a branching film, and discovering that in the edit is the most expensive mistake here.

The choice data reaches your CRM

What a viewer chose to watch is better qualification than anything a form asks. That data is the main commercial argument for interactive video and it usually goes unused.

A fallback exists from day one

Interactive players fail inside some corporate browsers, in email and on connected TV. The linear version is planned rather than improvised.

Start a projectDescribe what you want the viewer to choose between. We will tell you whether that justifies branching or whether hotspots would do it for a fraction.

Questions

Interactive video, answered plainly

Starting with the fact that this is a global category rather than a local one.

AED 25,000 to AED 150,000 covers most of what we are asked to build. The number moves on how many branches and endings, total unique runtime across all paths, whether CRM integration is needed, and how many languages. Anything quoted before those are known is a guess. We scope first, then price, and the scope document is yours whether or not you proceed. These are market ranges rather than a fixed rate card — the proposal carries the real figure.

Because there is very little local search demand for it — the specialists ranking are Hocus Pocus, Spiel Creative in London, NextThought and Dragonfly, with no UAE company on the first page. The category is real and the buyers here generally arrive already knowing they want it rather than searching for it. Worth knowing if you are comparing suppliers: you are not choosing from a crowded local field.

Two tests. Do different viewers genuinely need different content, and would knowing what each chose be useful to you? If both are yes, branching earns its cost. If either is no, a linear film with clickable hotspots does the job for a fraction, and that is what we will recommend.

Branching changes the path: the viewer chooses and sees genuinely different content afterwards. Hotspots layer information over a linear video without changing its direction. Hotspots are far cheaper and cover a large share of the briefs that arrive asking for branching.

Scenario-based training, by a distance. Make a decision, see the consequence. It is more effective than watching someone else decide correctly, and it generates assessment data without a separate quiz. After that, product tours that split by industry or role.

It depends on the tree rather than on a multiplier. Three branches that reconverge cost modestly more. A genuine tree with six distinct endings can be several times a linear film, because you are producing several films. Mapping the tree first is how the budget gets controlled.

With hotspots, usually yes. With branching, usually no, because the alternative paths were never filmed. This is why the branching decision has to happen before the shoot rather than after.

On an interactive video platform or a custom player, chosen for where it needs to work and what it must integrate with. If it has to sit inside your LMS or your CRM, that constrains the choice and we check it before building.

Every choice each viewer made, drop-off by branch, completion by path, and assessment scores where there are questions. Pushed into your CRM where consent allows, because that is where it is actually useful.

Generally yes on completion and time spent, and we would be cautious about quoting a figure at you. The uplift depends entirely on whether the branching was worth making. A well-judged interactive piece holds attention considerably longer than a linear equivalent; a novelty one does not.

Yes. We build websites and work in HubSpot and Salesforce, so the player, the tracking and the CRM handoff are in the same scope rather than handed to a separate developer after the film is finished.

No questions match — try another search.
