Product photography shot to your listing rules

Ecommerce photography is judged by a marketplace's automated checks before any customer sees it. Background value, product fill percentage, dimensions, what may appear in the main image. Beautiful photography that fails those rules is a rejection queue, and the rules are knowable in advance.

  • To the rules Amazon, Noon, your own
  • Colour accurate fewer colour returns
  • Volume planned, with a turnaround

Partners & recognition

The stack we work in, the clients we keep

The platforms we build and run campaigns in, and the clients whose numbers we publish with their names on. HubSpot is the one partnership we claim; the rest are tools we use, not badges.

The problem

Rejected by an automated check

Two hundred products shot beautifully, uploaded, and bounced because the product fills sixty percent of the frame where the marketplace requires eighty-five. None of that is a photography problem and all of it is avoidable.

Where catalogue shoots go wrong

  1. The platform rules were not checked first

Each marketplace has its own requirements on background, fill percentage, minimum dimensions and what may appear in a main image. They are published, they change, and almost nobody reads them before a shoot.

  2. Colour is close but not right

The navy photographs slightly purple, the beige slightly pink. The customer orders, it does not match, it comes back. Colour returns are among the most expensive problems in ecommerce and they originate at the shoot.

  3. Images do not match across the catalogue

Different shoots, different days, different photographers, no written specification. On a category grid the inconsistency is the first thing anyone sees, before any individual product.

  4. There is only one image per product

Conversion rises with the number of useful images: scale, detail, in-use, packaging. One front-on shot per product leaves questions unanswered, and unanswered questions are abandoned baskets.

What is included

What product photography covers here

Everything a listing actually needs, shot to a specification rather than to taste.

Pack shots on white

The main listing image, to whatever background value and fill percentage your platform requires. Consistent across the catalogue so a grid reads cleanly.

Detail and texture shots

Close work on material, finish, stitching and mechanism. The images that answer the questions a customer would ask if they could pick the product up.

Scale and context

Something that establishes size. One of the most common causes of a return is a product arriving smaller than the buyer pictured, and a single scale image prevents it.

Model and on-body

For apparel, jewellery and anything worn. Consistent posing and lighting across a range so the collection reads as one.

Ghost mannequin

Garments holding their shape with no mannequin visible. Shot in the passes it requires on the day, because retrofitting it later costs several times more.

360 spins

Rotating product views for categories where the customer wants to see all sides. Worth it for considered purchases and not for commodity items.

Group and range shots

Collections, bundles and variant families, for category pages and campaigns.

Colour management

Calibrated capture with colour targets in frame, so the product on screen matches the product in the box. The single most commercially valuable part of this work.

Listing specification

Written once with you: background, fill percentage, angles per product, dimensions, naming. Then every shoot matches it, including shoots we do not do.

Retouch and delivery

Retouched to the same specification, named and formatted for direct ingestion. Covered in detail on our retouching page and usually part of the same engagement.

Technology

What we shoot product with

A studio setup built for repeatability, because the second batch has to match the first.

Capture

Repeatable, not improvised.

  • Studio strobe and continuous lighting
  • Tethered capture
  • Repeatable rig setups
  • Turntable and 360 rigs

Colour

Where returns are prevented.

  • Colour targets in frame
  • Calibrated displays
  • ICC profile management
  • Physical sample comparison

Volume

Catalogue scale.

  • Capture One tethered sessions
  • Batch processing from the spec
  • Automated naming
  • Human quality checking

Compliance

Checked before the shoot.

  • Amazon and Noon requirements
  • Platform dimension rules
  • Fill percentage targets
  • Shopify and WooCommerce formats

How we work

How a catalogue shoot runs

Read the rules, write the spec, shoot the test, then run the volume.

Before planning anything

Every marketplace you sell on, plus your own site. Background, fill percentage, dimensions and permitted content. This determines the shoot setup and it is the step that prevents bulk rejections.

  • Rules confirmed per marketplace
  • Fill percentage and dimensions set
  • Permitted content in the main image checked
  • Own-site requirements agreed

Angles per product type

How many images per product, which angles, which details, and the naming convention. Agreed on a test batch of a few products before the full volume runs.

  • Angles agreed per product category
  • Image count per product set
  • Naming convention agreed
  • Test batch approved before volume

Repeatably

Fixed rig setups so the hundredth product matches the first, tethered capture so problems are caught at the shoot rather than in post, and colour targets in frame throughout.

  • Repeatable rig, not improvised per product
  • Tethered so faults are caught immediately
  • Colour targets in every setup
  • Physical samples checked against screen

Ready to ingest

Retouched to the same specification, named and formatted so your team uploads rather than renames. Compliance checked before delivery rather than after rejection.

  • Retouched to the written spec
  • Named and sized for direct upload
  • Marketplace compliance verified
  • Layered originals archived

Why us

Why these listings will not bounce

Because the rules are read before the shoot rather than after the upload.

Platform rules checked first

Amazon, Noon and your own site, confirmed before the setup is built. Bulk rejections are an avoidable and entirely predictable problem.

Colour managed against targets

Targets in frame, calibrated displays, physical samples compared. Colour returns cost more than the photography and they start at the shoot.

One written spec, every batch

So the products shot in November match the ones shot in March, and the grid reads as one catalogue rather than three.

Volume planned with a turnaround

Committed per batch, so your ecommerce team can schedule a launch rather than wait to hear.

Questions

Product photography, answered plainly

Including the questions the marketplaces make you ask.

AED 45 to AED 400 per image covers most of what we are asked to build. The number moves on the number of products and angles, whether models or ghost mannequin are involved, and whether retouching and listing preparation are included. Per-image cost falls substantially at catalogue volume. Anything quoted before those are known is a guess. We scope first, then price, and the scope document is yours whether or not you proceed. These are market ranges rather than a fixed rate card — the proposal carries the real figure.

Between five and eight for most categories, and the rise in conversion is real up to about that point. A main pack shot, two or three angles, a detail shot, something establishing scale, and one in use or on a person. Apparel needs more; a simple commodity item needs fewer. Beyond eight the return flattens off quickly.

Follow the platform rather than a general rule. Shopify handles large files and recommends square images, commonly around 2048 by 2048, and will resize down. Amazon requires at least 1000 pixels on the longest side for zoom to work and prefers considerably more. We shoot well above the minimum and deliver sized per destination, because upscaling later loses detail and re-shooting is expensive.

Shopify allows a large number per product, well beyond what any listing should use. The practical limit is attention rather than the platform: past roughly eight images most shoppers stop scrolling, and additional ones mainly slow the page. Fewer, better-chosen images outperform a long gallery.

Yes, to their published requirements on background, fill percentage, dimensions and permitted content in the main image. We confirm the current rules before the shoot because they change and a bulk rejection near a launch is expensive.

Yes, and it needs planning before the shoot because the garment is photographed in several passes on the day. Adding it afterwards from a single mannequin shot is possible and costs considerably more.

For simple products with a fixed setup and few angles, a substantial number — the constraint is handling and styling rather than shooting. For apparel on models, or products needing individual styling, far fewer. We estimate against your actual catalogue rather than quoting a general figure.

Usually products come to the studio, because a controlled repeatable setup is what keeps a catalogue consistent. For large items, furniture or anything that cannot travel, we shoot on site and bring the lighting.

Colour targets in frame, calibrated displays, and physical samples compared against the screen at the retouching stage. For colour-critical categories such as paint, fabric and cosmetics we ask for samples to keep alongside the work rather than trusting the capture alone.

The clearest measurable effect we see is on returns rather than on conversion. Accurate colour and a scale reference cut the two most common reasons a product comes back, and that saving is usually easier to demonstrate than a conversion uplift. Conversion improvements are real and harder to isolate from everything else changing on a store.

Yes, and doing both is cheaper because we shoot to the specification we then retouch to. Details are on our retouching page and it is usually one engagement rather than two.
